R/C car - RoboRemo'd

Post by Slider2732 on Sat Apr 16, 2016 7:07 pm

This is my build of the R/C car as described by our host.
Now fitted with ESP8266-01 WiFi module, 10A brushed ESC and a 9g servo.
The motor is the same one that it's always had.
Power is 8.4V, from 2x ex laptop 20 year old li-ions.
The reverse side of the ESP8266 has been used to mount the 3.3V regulator, 2x 2.2K resistors and 3 pin headers for ESC and servo outputs. Weight of the receiver is 3 grams.

Very Happy

Do you want to command the Dual H Bridge from ESP? ESP01 does not have enough GPIOs for that. I recommend using HUZZAH ESP.

the only available here in Philippines is ESP-01 and Dual H Bridge DC Motor Drive Controller Board Module - L298N D2 is also available here...

is there any problem with that sir? my plan is to build Simple RC car just like you made.

forward/backward and left/right turn...

Yes, with that hack you can get more GPIOs from ESP01, I forgot about it Smile

sir Admin I have an Idea..... i want to convert this servo in to Electronic Speed Controller for rear motor.. so there is Forward and Reverse like what you posted in the schematic.. but the big problem is I want to upgrade the motor using old motor like

hopefully you have an Idea please share with us

HI,
The Electronic Speed Controller I use is similar to this one:

Yes,
In the video he cuts the potentiometer and connects 2 resistors instead (resistor value 2k2) so that the controller will think that the potentiometer stays always on middle value.
Then you just replace the small motor with bigger one.
Then connect the servo cable to signal, +5V and GND.

In my schematic the controller takes power from battery and generates +5V for the rest of the circuit.
In your case, you will have to use an external +5V source.

The controller from the servo PCB may burn if the motor you connect needs too much current. In this case, you may try to use a controller from a bigger servo.

that's my plan bigger servo..

for the meantime

I already built DIY ESC (for Function: Forward and Reverse)

in just the pulse of GPIO0

if you see the layout "PULSE HERE" instead of GPIO2 you change into GPIO0

in the center of TIP41 we will find the Two Sockets.. and the the Motor to be place.

my DIY 3.3v regulator

for ESP socket with circuit

under of coupler i forgot to mention Jumper between ground and coupler

for those beginners who dont have ESC you can apply these 3 layout...

goodluck guys

Hello, tranqspogi! Thank You for your suggestion of low cost self made motor controller (ESC). Do you have this circuit drawing, or maybe a web link, where I could see it? Thanks in advance!

I will answer myself here Smile
I made a circuit drawing from PCB that tranqspogi posted.
I hope I did it right, will try to assemble and test it.
Circuit:

P.S.: image updated, there was an error. It is corrected.

Wow, that circuit with CD4017 seems very ingenious. I'm not sure how it processes the PWM input, but if it works, that is very nice circuit Smile

To be honest, I am not sure, how this speed controller is supposed to work. Maybe author tranqspogi can tell us a theoretical principle, how this CD4017 diagram works? Quick search in Web did not give me answers.
